Loved by Emperors and popular among different Southeast Asian countries, Wengchang Boiled Chicken is one of Hainan’s most famous dishes alongside jiaji Duck, Dongshan Lamb and Hele Crab. It promises to become one of your favourites too, when you visit the island.

Typical of Wengchang city, in the northeast part of Hainan, this dish is ever present whenever there’s a party.

You can enjoy Wengchang chicken in many different ways. One of the most popular recipes is boiled chicken.

The boiling makes the meat soft and tender, giving it a melt in the mouth sensation. You can dip pieces of the chicken in a variety of spices mixed with garlic, parsley, sugar and a little soy sauce which give it an even richer flavour. If you prefer you can also eat the chicken with plain boiled rice.
