Located on the same latitude as Hawaii and blessed with the same wonderful, warm weather, Hainan offers a tropical home to rich wildlife.
In the capital city of Haikou, you can find one of the best kept secrets of the island: the Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden. It religiously preserves the original essence of the local fauna and flora, providing a visual spectacle made up of plants, exotic animals and thrilling sounds of nature.
You can easily pass a couple of hours here, with the Park and Garden spread across more than five thousand acres. The inhabitant numbers are rather impressive: four thousand rare birds and two hundred species of animals call this place home, some of them endangered.
Elephants, giraffes and tigers share peaceful habitats, side-by-side with ostriches, peacocks and macaques - always ready to interact with visitors and receive delicious rewards that outsiders bring in their backpacks in exchange.
The Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden is one of the largest macaque parks in Asia, but also one of the largest feline parks. Here, the king of the jungle is the African lion, and, between roars, can be found regularly posing with cubs for the cameras of tourists who visit, delighting animal lovers.
In this natural paradise, blessed by the rays of the sun, the botanical garden with secular plants and trees provides moments of unique and captivating beauty, a perfect natural retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
Lovers of fine dining can also enjoy specialties of local cuisine at the Flamingo Restaurant, with a capacity for more than 600 people.
The commitment to natural and species preservation has attracted important accolades such as the National AAA Class Tourist Attraction, National Science Education Base and Ecological Science Education Base in Hainan Province, among others.
